About Me
My name is Christina Clancey and my Race4Awareness is focused on suicide. Two years ago I lost my 19 year old brother, Tommy, to suicide. Tommy was a brilliant and loving brother, son and friend. He was successful in school as a scholar at Ponce’s PUCPR studying General Science with aspirations to one day become a doctor. He was also a proud Eagle Scout and president of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity at his university. Despite Tommy´s successful and fulfilling life, on November 2008 Tommy attempted suicide for the first time. After the fact all he could say was that he thought it was all a dream and that an angel had saved him. He showed no signs for depression and was not prescribed any medications. My parents were told it was an isolated event and that after some sleep everything would be Ok.
Everything seemed to be fine until October 2009 when Tommy began to feel ill again. This time the doctor prescribed some antidepressants. It was very difficult for him to have to depend on this medication to function on a daily basis. He didn’t feel like himself when using the medications and felt like he was losing control of his life. The medications did not seem to be working and he felt no one understood. For the next two months he was in and out of doctor’s appointments and hospitals and began to feel like a burden to his family. He was concerned that he might not be able to get better. Tommy passed away on his third attempt on November 29th, 2009.
Suicide, like any fatal disease or fatal accident, could happen to anybody. We should not be afraid or ashamed to talk about it and seek help. Your life is worth fighting for. Life is worth running for. So this year I will be running my very first marathon in memory of my brother and to help other families from losing their loved ones as well.

About Me
My name is Jessica and my Race4Awareness is to shed light on Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorder. I love to dance, to travel, the wilderness, large bodies of water, and I love to run through Golden Gate Park. I am fortunate every day to have good health, a job I enjoy, a safe home in a fabulous city, and great community of family and friends. I do not take these things for granted.
This is why I will run for those who cannot—like my aunt who struggles from not one, but three motility disorders simultaneously: gastroparesis; small bowel dysmotility; and sphinctor of the oddi dysfunction. For the last six years, her condition has rendered this beautiful young woman incapacitated 24/7 with nausea, weakness, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, and increased pain after bowel movements (yes, I’m talking poo here). There is not a cure, no medications work, and she has seen dozens of specialists. GI disorders affect millions of people of all ages, women, men, and children. Yet much still remains unknown and research is severely underfunded. This is my first marathon ever and it has been a personal goal for the last 10 years. I appreciate you supporting me by taking an interest in my cause, raising awareness, or providing support in a form that is right for you.

About Me
My name is Chris McCoy and my Race4Awareness is focused now on Bipolar Schizophrenia. My sister Teri has been diagnosed with this illness and as a family, we've struggled with how to help her. The side effects of this illness make it very difficult for her to integrate into society and families like ours have similar problems helping their loved ones -- but once again, Race4Awareness is here to help.
My sister was a very talented musician (played the flute in both concert and jazz bands during high school). Unfortunately her illness led her astray and her dreams of becoming a musician have been sufficiently hampered by her disease. On behalf of my sister, on behalf of my loving parents who have tried all they can to as parents to help my sister and on behalf of any other family who struggles helping their loved ones with bipolar schizophrenia, I Race4Awareness for Bipolar Schizophrenia.
My mother helped me identify a perfect cause for this Race: "The Sean Castello Foundation" (http://www.seancostellofund.org/) in which Sean Costello--while being a very successful jazz musician--struggled with Bipolar Schizophrenia until his unfortunate death in 2008. Being that my race involves my passion for guitar, I hope that I capture Sean's spirit and give my sister a chance to re-ignite hers by playing Guitarra Española here in Madrid, España.
Awareness is crucial for helping people with Bipolar Schizophrenia because many victims ostracize themselves with their behavior (losing job opportunities, friends and often times putting their lives at risk) and their families struggle because they keep try solving this problem themselves; embarrased to seek help of any form. Thus more awareness could potentially allow society to understand the problems and challenges of Bipolar Schizophrenics and it is my priviledge to play guitar to help make this happen!

About Me
My name is Eric Hobbs and I am an engineer. I have my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering Design from UC Berkeley and a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Philosophy. I have over 30 patents currently pending with the USPTO. I can solve a Rubik’s cube in approximately 1minute, I do vector calculus just for fun, and I love to eat brownies. I enjoy playing the clarinet and riding snowboards, wake boards, and skateboards. I think cardio kick-boxing is really neat, especially when 60 year-old ladies start talking smack because I can't keep up. I listen to classical music. I love to shop at clearance racks and rap the ABC's with my kids.
I love to help others learn about engineering and science. I have lectured at top 25 Engineering Schools on topics such as MEMS Research, Precision Engineering, and Patents. Most lectures are posted at DocHobbs.com.
Engineering is a fantastic lifestyle, and my hope is, that by teaching people about the engineering profession, I can motivate other individuals to join me in engineering a fantastic future.

About Me
My name is Chris McCoy and my Race4Awareness is focused on Celiac Disease. Being diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2006, my life changed in some ways for the worse -- I now can’t eat anything with wheat, oats, rye, or barley -- but in many more ways for the better: By managing my diet, I've improved my overall health, I’ve reorganized my priorities and I’ve become inspired by those who can accomplish amazing things with much more severe life challenges.
Awareness is a key ingredient for Celiacs who want to return to a semi-normal life around food and I intend to make an impact. I’ve been riding motorcycles since 1996 and racing since March 2010. I like long walks on the beach and wearing cowboy hats!
